A Beautiful Morning at the ECR Beach

It was a lightly drizzling day on the Eastern Coastal Road when we decided to visit the ECR beach. The beach is vast, clean, and very peaceful. There were many big bungalows by the shore and it made me think that if Chennai were a little kinder in terms of heat and humidity, I could genuinely imagine building a home here.

After spending some time at the beach, we began walking through the lanes of ECR in search of a breakfast spot. Once we joined the main road, we came across a place called Eventide Coffee. From a distance, it didn’t quite look like a cafe. We were drawn in simply by the word coffee. As we got closer, it appeared to be a very elegant and fancy cafe.

The cafe had just recently opened, which explained why it didn’t show up on Google Maps during our search. The cafe had quite high ceilings, which is very rare in Mumbai. The furnishing was genuinely so good that I kept looking at their tables and chairs all the time.

Since we arrived early, the available menu options were limited. We ordered a Matcha Float, a Gibraltar, Carrot Cake, and Bread Pudding. The matcha was good, though I’m not a fan of marshmallows, I had a few bites but left most of it aside. Both desserts were freshly made and placed on display just as we were ordering. They were well done, though a bit too sweet for our taste. Eventide roasts and sources its own coffee and also sells it in roasted form. The Gibraltar was nice, well balanced coffee and worked perfectly to cut through the sweetness of the desserts.

It was one of those mornings I wish I could have every day. A slow paced morning where I do the things I like, followed by a nice cup of coffee. Seems like a perfect retirement plan, doesn’t it?
